US President Donald Trump recently rolled out a new dollar-pegged stablecoin tied to his crypto venture, World Liberty Financial. Known as World Liberty Financial USD (USD1), the new cryptocurrency went live rather quietly in early March, featuring a total supply of $3.5 million.
The token was rolled out on two chains — Ethereum and BNB Chain, which can be seen via block explorers, including Etherscan and BscScan.
Changpeng Zhao, Binance’s former CEO, flagged the launch and pointed out the stablecoin’s presence on the two chains. However, World Liberty came out to say that the stablecoin is not yet tradeable, even though it is officially live on both networks.
A New Regulation For Stablecoins Might Be Adopted By Mid-Year
The token’s launch came at an interesting time, just as Washington started seeing a renewal of the momentum surrounding stablecoin regulations. The Senate Banking Committee cleared the so-called GENIUS (Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins) Act on March 13, and a full vote is expected to take place soon.
According to the executive director of the President’s Council of Advisers on Digital Assets, the bill could find its way to Trump’s desk by June of this year.
As for World Liberty, the project went live in September 2024, but it was not received very well due to a lack of transparency. On its website, it claims that Trump and several of his family members hold 60% of the project’s equity, and the company completed two public token sales by mid-March 2025, raising around $550 million in total.
The Trump family is rumored to be in negotiations with Binance over two issues — a potential stake, and a presidential pardon for CZ which, if received, might allow him to return to be the head of the company. CZ himself denied any rumors involving deals or a potential pardon.
