Lloyds Banking Group is planning to close its contact centre in Liverpool this year, making about 500 workers travel to Chester for work. The bank is also planning to cut hundreds of jobs.

According to Lloyds, closing the Liverpool contact centre, which handles fraud and customer service is part of its plan to have “fewer but better” offices.

The bank noted that no one will lose their job because of this move. About 420 workers will be asked to work in Chester, which is 25 miles away, and the other 80 workers will work from home.

The Closure Could Affect Workers And The Local Area

Dominic Hook, a union leader from Unite, said closing the large Lloyds office in Liverpool Speke is a big mistake. It will greatly affect the workers and the local area, and it’s not needed at all.

Not long after the news about Liverpool, Lloyds said it is also closing another office in Dunfermline, Scotland. This change will affect 1,500 workers. These workers can choose to work from home or move to the Citymark building in Edinburgh.

The bank is considering cutting even more jobs, with plans to remove up to 1,300 jobs in its consumer relationship division. This includes 163 job cuts in Whales and England because of a new branch-sharing plan. This plan lets customers of Lloyds, Bank of Scotland, and Halifax use any of the group’s branches.

Lloyds has also revealed its plans to close 55 more branches this year, leaving just 932 locations in its high street network.

Lloyds recently rolled out a new tool that helps people find out if they can claim government benefits or payments they might be missing.

The bank says many people in the UK—around eight million households—are not claiming about £23 billion in benefits every year. This includes Universal Credit, Child Benefit, and Pension Credit.  To fix this, the bank introduced Benefit Calculator, a fresh app tool that helps customers see what benefits they can get and shows them how to apply.

The Tool Helps Young Professionals, Homeowners, And Others Find Support

This tool, created by Scottish tech company inbest, could help lots of people, like young professionals who miss out on Council Tax discounts or homeowners who need help with home improvements.

The app starts by asking six quick questions, like how much money the person makes, how many kids they have, and where they live. Based on their answers, the app shows how much money they might get from benefits.

Customers can then use a more detailed calculator, which takes about five minutes, according to the bank.  The tool shows a summary of the benefits, the estimated money they might receive, and links for making a claim.

Tamara van den Ban, a director at Lloyds, stated that there’s so much support out there, but many people don’t know how to get it. The company created the Benefit Calculator to help people find out what they can claim and shows them how to do it.
