Sunshine+Kittens, a new app to help kids learn about money, is set to launch early next year. Charles O’Neil, one of the app’s co-founders, and Chief Marketing Officer Dan Walsh shared their vision for the app, which has already partnered with Mastercard to expand in six major markets.

The app also teamed up with SaaScada, a banking technology provider, for its back-end support. Talks are underway with some of the largest retail banks in Europe, who have shown interest in the project.

The App Is Designed To Make Learning About Money Fun For Kids

The Sunshine+Kittens app is designed to make financial learning fun. In the game, kids follow an animated kitten on a journey across a colorful, fictional universe. To move forward in the game and complete missions, kids need to learn basic money skills.

O’Neil said there are two versions of the app: one for kids and one for parents. In the parents’ version, parents can give their kids tasks. When kids finish the tasks, they earn tokens. The tokens help them build their own virtual worlds in the game.

He added that kids can play for about 10 minutes, a few times a week, with their parents helping. This way, kids can learn about money without feeling like they’re in school. The game is fun, with lots of characters and stories that kids will enjoy. The tasks help kids understand money, so even if they don’t know all the words, they will still learn how to be good with money.

The App’s Goal Is To Improve Financial Literacy And Social Mobility

The app is for two age groups. Kids aged 6-12 will play in “Sunshine and Kittens,” and teens 12-18 can move to “Emo Kittens.” The app has fun pictures, music, and ways to make it special for each player.

According to O’Neil, younger kids will learn about the world around them, while teens will explore ideas of self-expression and identity through the game.

The app’s ultimate mission is to improve financial literacy and social mobility. By teaching kids how to manage money early, the creators hope that they will grow up with a good sense of how to handle their finances.

The app’s world is designed to be bright, imaginative, and full of playful charm. O’Neil said the kitten-themed universe will feature customization options, colorful designs, and a touch of artificial intelligence. There is even a plan for a special Sunshine+Kittens card with packaging that gives kids an exciting unboxing experience, adding a fun and memorable aspect to the app’s goal of financial learning.
