A recent survey from Circana shows that over 70 percent of people in the United States still play games in 2024. According to the update, this survey was tailored to 5,100 active players to understand their gaming habits, interests, and how much money they spend on games.

The survey revealed that around 71 percent of Americans consider themselves gamers, meaning they played on any device in the last month. This number is a little lower than 74 percent in 2020 but still higher than 67 percent in 2018. Now, there are about 236.4 million active gamers in the country.

Older Adults Show More Interest In Gaming

According to the newest survey, adults over the age of 45 are now the largest gaming group in the U.S., reaching 37 percent of all players. This group includes more women than before, with many enjoying console games.

For gaming devices, mobile remains the most popular choice for U.S. players. The report shows that 65 percent of people in the U.S. play games on mobile devices, the same as last year. Around 36 percent use PCs for gaming, down 4 percent from last year, and about 35 percent play on consoles, which is similar to previous years.

The survey also reported that a special group of super gamers is growing. This group includes players who spend much time and money on games. They are mostly between the ages of 13 and 34. Now, 16 percent of all U.S. players are super gamers, totaling about 38.3 million people, up from 36 million last year.

The Latest Survey Shows Increased Time Of Playing Games Among Americans

American gamers now spend about 14.5 hours each week on games, which is 1.8 hours more than last year. According to the update, most of this extra time goes to mobile and console games, showing a growing interest in these platforms.

While players are spending more time gaming, their spending on games varies. Many gamers reported spending an average of $56.20 on games over the last six months, yet nearly half did not spend any money.

Circana’s report shows that the changes in gaming habits may help the growth of web3 gaming. This type of gaming offers features like owning digital items and playing on various devices. Experts believe that super gamers could be especially important for web3 gaming because they enjoy spending time and money on games.

As more older adults show interest in games and younger groups, like Generation Alpha, change their gaming habits, web3 game developers might find new ways to bring these groups into gaming. Special rewards or digital items may help keep younger players interested.
