NAB has collaborated with Microsoft to help small companies protect themselves from cyber-attacks. The two companies want to halt the rising danger of online attacks on small businesses. Together, they’re introducing a cyber assessment tool, a device that can check how safe a company is from cyber-attacks, and it’s free to use.
This project aims to help small businesses in Australia boost their cybersecurity defense system and swiftly recover from possible cyber-attacks.
The Tool Is Custom-Made To The Needs Of The Companies In Australia
The unique tool is specifically tailored to the needs of Australian businesses, and all types of organizations in the country can use it. This tool is meant to be finished in less than two hours.
It guides users through questions about how safe a business is with its security, data, and IT setup. After answering these questions, the tool uses the information to provide personalized and evidence-based suggestions to boost their cybersecurity systems.
The Chief Security Officer at NAB, Sandro Bucchianeri, said the tool is essential for small businesses. It helps them test how good they are at online safety. It is like a guide for small businesses to decide and understand how to protect their customers, employees, and operations.
In a press release, Sandro Bucchianeri cited that more and more cyberattacks are affecting small businesses every year. He explained that a cybercrime was reported every six minutes in the preceding financial year.
These attacks cost both medium and small companies about $71,600 on average. This information comes from the Australian Signals Directorate’s latest research, which indicates a 23% increase in such incidents.
Australia Witnesses Increased Cyber Attacks
Cybercriminals have been increasing their attacks in the past few weeks, going after prominent Australian businesses almost every day. This has affected various sectors like the legal system, hospitals, and the business community. Introducing tools like this will assist small businesses in responding effectively if they become victims of a cyber-attack.
He also mentioned that cybercriminals are changing tactics, particularly with more ransomware attacks and phishing scams. According to NAB’s Consumer and Business Insights research, small and medium businesses (SMEs) must be well-prepared for cyber threats, with only 15% providing thorough training on scams and cybersecurity risks.
Recognizing the Australian government’s focus on small businesses’ cybersecurity, Bucchianeri encouraged everyone to work together to help these businesses go from being less ready for cyber threats to being strong and resilient. He also emphasized that about 97% of Australian businesses are small, so it’s crucial to prioritize them as the top focus for achieving national cyber resilience.
To use the free cyber assessment tool, businesses must go to NAB’s official website, find the Security tab, and choose the Microsoft offer. Additionally, NAB offers detailed security guides on reporting and avoiding fraud and scams.
