The winner of the 2011 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel is announced by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm.
The 10th annual meeting of finance ministers and officials from Asia and Europe takes place in Bangkok. Participants will be looking at ways to promote closer cooperation between the two regions, particularly when it comes to economic and financial ties.
WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy visits Indonesia.
The UN Security Council is scheduled to meet in New York. The agenda is to include the quarterly open debate on the Middle East, with a briefing by Jeffrey Feltman, under-secretary-general for political affairs.

The Global Economic Symposium is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, until October 17. More than 600 leading decision-makers from politics, business, finance, academia and civil society will attend.
