Football industry worldwide generates revenue in US $ billions. FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions league, English Premier League, Spanish League and Italian football league are huge money earners for world football industry. Broadcasting rights, player transfer fees, endorsements, footballers’ earnings and product manufacturers’ earnings add to total turnover of global football industry.

FIFA World Cup

2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany earned US $2.422 billion as marketing revenue and US $ 892 million from sponsorship. This world cup had fifteen sponsors namely, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Gillette, McDonald’s, Yahoo, Continental, Emirates, Deutsche Telekom, MasterCard, Budwieser, Toshiba, Philips, Avaya, Fujifilm, and Hyundai each of which paid an approximate amount of US $ 51 million. In addition, six national partners each contributed US $ 16.5 million.

UEFA Champions League

UEFA Champions League is a European club football tournament held annually. The current sponsors of this tournament include Sony, Ford, MasterCard, Heineken, and Vodafone. Adidas is the secondary sponsor and supplies footballs for the UEFA competitions.

Adidas, Nike, and Puma are the leading manufacturers of football accessories, and apparels. Nike Inc., is headquartered near Beaverton in Oregon, United States. In 2007, this giant earned a revenue of US $ 2.2 billion approximately.

Adidas based in Herzogenaurach, Germany earned generated revenue of US $15.6 billion in 2007. Puma, also based in Herzogenaurach, Germany in 2007 earned a revenue of US $ 3.51 billion.
