This on going Shanghai Stock Exchange was newly built in the year 1990 and has been in operation since then. The Shanghai Stock Exchange is a non-profit establishment and it is governed by the China Securities Regulatory Commission or CSRC.
Shanghai Stock Exchange was closed totally during the communist revolution and was closed for the foreign traders until the cultural revolution was finished and Xiaoping became the face of the government. In the year 1978 it was again opened for the outside traders. The Shanghai Stock Exchange works five days a week from Monday to Friday from 9:30-11:30 am in the morning and from 13:00-15:00pm in the afternoon.

There were more than 840 companies listed in Shanghai Stock Exchange and the gross market capitalization was more than US$900 until 2006.
The main index in Shanghai Stock Market is the SSE Composite Index which reflects the performance of the exchange .
