Effectiveness of Japanese economic stimulus
A question that keeps coming back, as far as Japan economic stimulus is concerned, is of effectiveness and whether stimulus package would serve its desired purpose. Economists within Japan are pretty doubtful regarding potential of this stimulus package. They are saying that this particular economic stimulus package is motivated by political needs rather than any practical or economic considerations.
Proposals included in Japan economic stimulus
There are several proposals that have been included in present Japan economic stimulus package. Japanese government is willing to address areas such as fishing and agricultural sector, which have been affected as a result of rapidly increasing prices of fuels.
There are also plans to reduce tolls collected on expressways and increasing range of medical services so that elder citizen of Japan could be treated in a better way. They are looking to help mid and small business enterprises from after effects of increasing commodity prices.
Value of Japan economic stimulus
As per official reports, total value of economic stimulus package, announced by Japan’s national government, is supposed to range between 2-3 trillion yen or $18.35-$27.53 billion.
Problems of Japan economic stimulus
According to leading economists, Japan economic stimulus package has some teething problems. Kyohei Morita, who is chief economist with Barclays Capital, Tokyo, says that there would be some relief for people, who have been affected most by ongoing global financial crisis. However, he also opines that problem areas of Japanese economy would not be largely benefited.
Kyohei Morita also reaffirms suggestions that this particular economic stimulus package is fraught with political aspirations by saying that this is an exercise into garnering popularity just in time for coming lower house elections in Japan. Kyohei also does not have high hopes regarding effectiveness of stimulus package, which gets established by suggestions that this package would not serve a broader economic purpose.
