The Centre for Alternative Technology or CAT was established by Gerard Morgan-Grenville in the year 1973 in Machynlleth in Mid Wales. The prime motto behind establishing CAT was to represent necessity and availability of alternative energy sources in a different manner. The organization, from its very beginning, has focused on encouraging eco-friendly principles among the society.

The organization, from its very beginning, has focused on encouraging eco-friendly principles among the society.

[br] CAT has also encouraged new ideas related to alternative energy sources and carried out research activities to develop certain technologies for the purpose. Although it was started in some unfavorable conditions but gradually, with the growth in the membership, the organization flourished and reached certain heights. Centre for Alternative Technology aims at developing and implementing such technologies in the whole world that will be environment friendly. The organization mainly deals in the field of land use, waste management, energy conservation, diet and health and a lot more.

There are a number of problems that are getting serious nowadays. Some of these are the change in the climatic conditions, overuse of available energy resources, different types of pollutions and a lot more. The Center for Alternative Technology provides practical solutions to control all these problems and to develop the quality of life. Every kind of efforts is made to build a good environment, to develop alternative sewage systems and to explore the sources of renewable energy. Center for Alternative Technology runs a Visitor Centre to help people understanding the real problem and also to provide them with different types of practical solutions.

For the purpose, the company arranges a number of interactive display shows. At the same time, any kind of query related to several subjects that are handled by CAT, is answered through the e-mails, ordinary mails or even on phone.

[br]CAT is also involved in a number of educational programs. The Centre offers a number of educational programs that includes several residential as well as non-residential programs. Some of these programs are the Sustainable Energy, Holidays and Reconnecting with Nature, Accredited Courses for Installers, Ecology and Organic Gardening, Environmental Building, Water and Sanitation Courses and a lot more. Both short and long courses are offered by the organization. The Centre also publishes a wide range of books on the green topics. These books are sold from the retail outlets of the company or these are sent through mail. The objective of these programs is to encourage people to reduce their own negative impact on the earth.
