The co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, has said that the competitive technology industry is changing. The race in the tech space currently revolves around the creation of a top artificial intelligence (AI) agent, according to Gates. This agent will disrupt multiple tech spaces such as search engines, online shopping platforms, and productivity.

Gates said that the search engine will ease the experience that users have across the online sector. The tool will ensure that users never have to visit a search engine again and they never have to go to Amazon to make their online purchases.

Gates gave his comments while speaking at the AI Forward 2023 event. The event was based in San Francisco, and it was hosted by Goldman Sachs Group Inc and SV Angel. The Microsoft co-founder said that he would be disappointed if Microsoft was not in the race for this AI feature. However, there was a 50% possibility that the leading player in the AI race would be a startup company.

Microsoft has yet to reveal any official plans for creating a leading AI agent. Gates said that one of the projects that had impressed him in the AI industry was Inflection AI, which was co-founded by an entrepreneur known as Reid Hoffman.

Several players across the industry have also worked on the creation of a computer assistant that is powered by AI. Consumers can command this AI feature using speech and text. The feature can handle a variety of tasks. Gates said that the individual that wins the race for an AI personal agent, adding that such a feature was a major thing.

Intel Is Planning To Launch AI Chips

In other developments happening in the AI industry, Intel Corp has shared several details about new features for a chip supporting AI. The company has also highlighted the plans that will be launched on 2-25 as it shifts its strategy and become competitive against Nvidia and Advanced Micro devices.

Intel announced its plans for AI chips at a supercomputing conference held in Germany on Monday. At the time, Intel said that the upcoming Falcon Shores chip would contain 288 gigabytes of memory, and it would also support an 8-bit floating-point computation. These technical specifications are important as the artificial intelligence model provides similar services to the ChatGPT chatbot.

The details are among the first that have been released by the company as it conducts a strategic shift to become competitive against Nvidia, which has emerged as the largest market for AI and AMD.

Intel has also said that it has finalized the shipments for the Aurora supercomputer created by Argonne National Lab. According to Intel, the company has a better performance compared to the latest AI chip created by Nvidia known as H100. The company’s Falcon Shores chip will also not be available in the market until 2025 when Nvidia will be releasing another chip by the company.
