It is important to note that the TD Banknorth is what was once known as the Bank North. It is now a fully-owned subsidiary of the Toronto Dominion Bank. This bank is involved in personal banking, business banking and insurance. TD Banknorth primarily serves the northeastern section of the US. The headquarters for the bank can be found in Portland, Maine.

In August of 2004 the majority owner of the bank became the Canadian Toronto-Dominion Bank. The name was then changed to TD Banknorth, N.A. More changes were in store for the bank a few years later. In April of 2008 TD Banknorth merged with the New Jersey-based Commerce Bank (Commerce Bancorp). That merger formed what is now known as the TD Bank.[br]
