Iowa is a Midwestern state in the N Central of United State. The state is bounded by the Mississippi river across which lie Wisconsin lllinois; Missouri; Nebraska and South Dakota, from which it is separated by the Missouri and the big Sioux rivers and Minnesota.

The state has a total geographical area of 56,272 sq mi; with a land area of 55,869 sq mi; and total acres forested 2.1 mil.

The total estimated population of the state in the year 2005 was at 2,966,334, which is an increase of 13,430, or 0.5%, from the prior year.

The net change of the population in 2002-03 was 0.3%. The density of the population in the state was 52.7 per sq mi.

With regards to the racial distribution of the state in 2000: 93.9% white; 2.1% black; 1.3% Asian and 0.3% Native American.

The U.S. Census Bureau, as of 2004 reported that Iowa’s population included about 97,000 foreign-born (3.3%).

Business and Economy of Iowa

The total gross state product of the state for 2003 was US$103 billion with a per capita income of US$28,340 in the same year.

Among the various sectors of the economy the Chief Industries of the state are agriculture, communications, construction, finance, insurance, trade , services and manufacturing.

The Major manufacturing goods of the state are processed food products, tires, firm machinery, electronic products, appliances, household furniture, chemicals, ferilizers and auto accessories.

The Important crops of the state are silage and grain corn, soybeans, oats and hay.

The live stock of the state (Jan 2004): 3.45 million cattle/calves; 250,000 sheep/lambs; (Jan 2003): 15.8 million hogs/pigs; (Dec 2003): 50.9 million chickens.

The mineral production in the state is very low.
