Overview: This is a polite way for international organisations to classify everyone who has not 'made it' into the club of advanced or developed economies. It encompasses a wide range of countries such as China, India and Russia, who by the end of the century could be the three largest economies in the world, down to tiny poverty striken nations such as Haiti and war-torn countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq.
