Artificial intelligence has become a hot topic in the technology sector. Apple, the largest tech company in the US, is showing interest in the field. Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, shared a glimpse into the company’s plans during a Q&A session of the recent earnings call when interviewed on his thoughts on artificial intelligence and where the sector is headed.

Apple to integrate AI into products

Cook has not given a clear plan on the plans that Apple has for the future. He noted that the company did not share details on its product roadmaps. However, he alluded that Apple was interested in the fast-growing AI space.

While speaking in the earnings call, Cook said, “I do think it’s very important to be deliberate and thoughtful in how you approach these things. And there’s a number of issues that need to be sorted… But the potential is certainly very interesting.”

The executive further shared the company’s views, admitting that AI was a “huge” space. As such, Apple would continue integrating the technology into its products systematically and ensure that any plans for the same are successful.

Cook said the company would take a “deliberative and thoughtful” approach to AI. The statement could explain why Apple has remained conspicuously absent in the generative AI space. However, signs point to Apple conducting its research on the related models.

Concerns about AI

AI has become a hot topic in the technology space since the launch of the ChatGPT chatbot in November last year. However, there are concerns about the regulatory framework surrounding the industry and the reliability of AI-based products.

A research paper set to be released at the Interaction Design and Children conference this year has provided in-depth details of a novel system that will address bias in developing machine learning datasets.

The research brings human feedback at the initial stages of model development to democratize the data selection process. While the paper has taken an in-depth look into the things that could be done to boost the adoption of AI and make this technology more trustworthy, it could be difficult to scale the techniques described in the research paper and use them in training large language models like ChatGPT and Google Bard.

The creation of LLM without bias could be a significant moment for the development of human-level AI systems. These systems tend to disrupt various aspects of the technology sector. Moreover, unbiased crypto and trading bots with human-level reasoning could transform the global financial industry by tapping high-level trading knowledge.

Moreover, if AI can demonstrate the use of unbiased LLM, it could go a long way to satisfy the government’s concerns about safety and ethics for the generative AI industry. For tech giants such as Apple, any generative AI product developed or chosen by the company could benefit from the integrated AI chipset by Apple and add value to its 1.5 billion user footprint.
