Robert A Mundel was born on 24th October in the year 1932. After passing out from the London School of Economics and MIT, Robert A Mundel earned his Ph.D degree in the year 1956 from MIT. In political economy, he was a post doctoral fellow at Chicago University between 1956 through 1957. Robert A Mundel, also known as Robert Alexander Mundel became associated with the International Monetary Fund in the year 1961. He was a teacher at the John Hopkins Bologna Center Of Advanced International Studies.

Contribution of Robert A Mundel:

Mundel’s main work revolved around supply side economics and tax cuts. However, his work on international exchange rates and currency related issues made him prominent. He was awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in the field of Economic sciences. This award was conferred up on him by the Bank of Sweden.

He pioneered the theory of interest and inflation; balance of payments; monetary and financial policy mix. He was the first economist to propound the theory of a common currency in the European countries. He has written several books and articles related to different concepts in the field of economics. Robert A Mundel has played a vital role in introducing the common European currency- Euro. “Transition” economies is another sphere, which he has mastered and authored several journals and articles related to it.
