Jeff Zhang is shifting his attention to the Alibaba DAMO Academy and other IoT projects, and he will be taking over leadership of these responsibilities. Alibaba’s former CEO, Jack Ma, instituted a policy of regular executive turnover before handing the reins to Daniel Zhang.
Former Alibaba CEO Jack Ma believed this strategy would allow the company to continue expanding despite the dynamic nature of the internet.

The massive e-commerce and cloud computing company announced on Thursday that a reorganization would begin this year. According to Daniel Zhang, Jeff Zhang has done remarkable work as leader of the Alibaba Cloud Intelligence team over the past four years in terms of both technical innovation and industry impact.
As China enters a new era of living with Covid and governments are required to oversee the future development of the platform economy, the Alibaba Group is more confident than ever that continued expansion will solve the problems it is currently facing.
Alibaba Makes Some Management Changes
Amidst intense scrutiny from the Chinese government, Alibaba has reshuffled its top leadership once again, this time naming Daniel Zhang interim president of its cloud intelligence management and communication services.
To rephrase, Jeff Zhang is stepping down as CEO of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence to concentrate on leading the Alibaba DAMO Academy. While this transition takes place, he will remain in charge of Alibaba’s T-Head proprietary chip development team and IoT initiatives.
In 2023, on April 1st, Judy Tong will hand over the reins of the Group Chief People Officer position she has held since 2017 to Jane Jiang. In addition to his new role as CTO, Zeming will maintain his current responsibilities as CTO of the Local Services division.
Alibaba’s Restructuring Timing is Questioned
Alibaba is the third-largest public cloud infrastructure provider after Microsoft and AWS. A serious outage on Alibaba Cloud’s Hong Kong servers shut down several services, including the main cryptocurrency exchange OKX, less than two weeks ago.
