For those of us long accustomed to using terms such as “kilobytes”, “megabytes”, “gigabytes” and “terabytes”, the idea of a “zettabyte” may appear to be a distant concept that will only come into fruition many years from now.

But according to a 2012 report by Cisco Systems, global Internet traffic is expected to reach a staggering 1.3 zettabytes annually by 2016 – making the level of monthly Internet traffic four times what was already seen in 2011.
