Google Wallet is introducing a new feature that allows parents to supervise their children’s use of Android devices for payments and pass storage. This update enables parents to monitor their child’s spending habits and manage the items stored within the app
This change will start in some places, including the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Spain, and Poland. Parents will have control over their child’s payments by making sure only approved cards get added.
Google Wallet Enhances Family Controls For Safer Kid-Friendly Payments
Parents will also receive an email notification for each purchase their child makes. They can review transaction history, remove payment cards, and restrict the use of passes as needed.
All of this can be managed in Family Link, which is an app that helps parents set rules for their child’s device. Parents can decide how long their child can use the screen, pick which apps are okay or not, keep accounts safe, see where their child is, and know when they arrive or leave a place.
With these new controls, kids can pay in stores by tapping their device and keep things like tickets, library cards, and gift cards in one spot. Dong Min Kim, who helps lead Google Wallet, shared this update and said that it makes things safer for families.
A recent report highlights the growing adoption of digital wallets such as Google Pay, Apple Pay, and PayPal for both in-store and online transactions. The findings indicate that a significant number of consumers now prefer this payment method, with many having recently completed purchases using their mobile devices.
Google Wallet Joins Apple and Venmo In Offering Safer Payment Options For Kids
Apple offers a feature called Apple Cash Family, allowing parents to set up Apple Cash accounts for their children. This enables kids to make purchases and send or receive money through Messages or Wallet. Parents can decide who their child can send money to, get alerts when they spend, and even lock the account if needed.
Venmo, which belongs to PayPal, also launched a special account for teens. Parents can open a Venmo Teen Account for kids from 13 to 17. This lets kids send and receive money while parents keep an eye on their spending.
Google Wallet is a payment platform from Google. It works on Android, Wear OS, and Fitbit OS devices. Google introduced it during a major event, and it later appeared on Android smartphones.
