The Tech Council of Australia (TCA) has started a new program to help with the struggle for tech workers. The Partners Forum will help different industries use technology while also noting the growing use of technology in banking. The TCA believes that 62% of tech workers in Australia work in non-tech fields, like banking.
The Partners Forum will help companies work together to create tech talent pipelines. Commonwealth Bank is one of the groups involved, and the topics being discussed include the rise of AI, more cybersecurity risks, and the need for talented tech workers.
The Forum Promotes Collaboration And Creativity Among Various Companies
Richard White, a TCA board member and the Chief Executive Officer of WiseTech noted that Tech jobs are not just in tech companies. He pointed out that over 50% of technology workers are in jobs that cross into many other areas, including retail, mining, banking, and professional services.
The Tech Council Partners Forum is a key space to encourage teamwork and new ideas across all types of businesses, regardless of the field.
The forum will add to programs like WiseTech’s Earn and Learn program. This gives students paid experience in software engineering while they study.
The TCA also manages the national Virtual Work Experience Program, helping over 2,000 students explore careers in data science, cybersecurity, and software engineering. The goal of this program is to create more hands-on learning chances to grow Australia’s tech workforce.
The Partners Forum is open to all businesses, not just traditional tech ones. It offers chances for companies to join working groups and cooperate on technology rules, investment in new ideas, and workforce growth.
The Australian Government Wishes To Set Up 1.2 Million Tech Jobs By 2030
The Australian government aims to create 1.2 million technology jobs by 2030. As of May last year, the number was around 930,000, according to reports. The TCA believes AI could create 200,000 jobs in Australia by 2030, but only if serious skill gaps are filled.
There is a big chance to bring in more diversity since only 28% of the IT workers in Australia are women. This is a great chance to help more people get tech jobs through programs like TAFE.
Damian Kassabgi, the Chief Executive Officer of TCA stated that to increase Australia’s tech workforce, more steps need to be taken. He added that it doesn’t happen without cost. It needs people to learn new skills, get an education, and work hard to prepare the workforce.
