xAI Partners with El Salvador on National AI Learning Program

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, announced yesterday, December 11, that it is entering into a transformative partnership with the government of El Salvador.

xAI said that it is a groundbreaking partnership that will see the launch of the world’s first nationwide AI-powered education program. The idea is to spend the next two years deploying Grok across more than 5,000 public schools and delivering personalized learning to more than one million students.

The announcement claims that this will also empower teachers as collaborative partners in education.

The initiative is expected to “create adaptive, curriculum-aligned tutoring that adjusts to each student’s pace, preferences, and mastery level—ensuring every child, from urban centers to rural communities, receives world-class education tailored to their needs.”

xAI further said that by co-developing the system with El Salvador, it will generate new methodologies, datasets, and frameworks that will guide responsible AI use in classrooms around the world. The focus will be on local contexts, safety, and human-centered impact.

Turning El Salvador From Tech Adopter To Tech Architect

The move was also announced by El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele, who commented by saying that El Salvador doesn’t just wait for the future to happen, it builds it.

“From establishing the global standard in security to now pioneering AI-driven education, El Salvador proves that nations can leapfrog directly to the top through bold policy and strategic vision. With xAI as the leader in frontier models and El Salvador as a testbed for innovation, this partnership is destined to deliver something rather extraordinary for all of humanity,” he added.

Elon Musk commented on the initiative and the partnership with El Salvador, noting that by partnering with President Bukele to bring Grok to every student in the country, xAI is putting the most advanced AI directly in the hands of an entire generation.

The partnership is viewed as an important milestone for both parties, as xAI gets a massive, real-world stress test of its Grok model at a national scale, while El Salvador can continue President Bukele’s strategy of using emerging and disruptive technology to drive social and economic change.

Previously, he pushed the initiative to adopt Bitcoin in his country, and now, he hopes to use AI to transform the nation from being merely a technological adopter into a technology architect.

It is worth noting that there are concerns regarding the ethical use of AI in education and data privacy, as well as past controversies surrounding Grok, but xAI says that it is committed to developing safety standards tailored to the local context.
