Business Leaders Conquer 26 Irish Peaks, Raising Over €1.5 Million for Children’s Cancer Charity

A group of more than 20 business leaders from Ireland, the UK, and the USA have successfully completed the “26 Mountains 2 Mayo” challenge, raising over €1.5 million for the Cancer Fund for Children. The nine-day expedition, held from June 7 to June 15, involved scaling the highest peak in each of Ireland’s 26 counties, covering a total elevation gain of nearly 11,000 meters—equivalent to climbing Mount Everest 1.25 times.
The challenge commenced with the ascent of Errigal in County Donegal and concluded with Mweelrea in County Mayo. Throughout the journey, participants traversed diverse terrains, from rugged mountain paths to boggy hills, embodying the resilience of the children and families the charity supports.
The funds raised will directly benefit the Cancer Fund for Children, enabling the organization to expand its services, including the construction of a second therapeutic short break center in Cong, County Mayo. This new facility aims to meet the growing demand for support among young cancer patients and their families.
The “26 Mountains 2 Mayo” challenge not only provided a physical test for its participants but also served as a powerful reminder of the strength and perseverance of those affected by childhood cancer. The collective effort has garnered widespread support and admiration, highlighting the impact of community-driven initiatives in supporting vital charitable causes.
