Global retail giant Amazon recently unveiled a new AI agent that could be a massive game changer for shoppers. According to the company, this new AI agent, called Nova Act SDK, was trained to perform actions independently, which even includes ordering items online and paying for them.
Nova Act SDK is currently available as a research preview, but its main advantage over other AI solutions is the fact that it allows developers to build agents that can do practically anything. They can play video games, submit out-of-office requests, and even go apartment hunting on behalf of the user.
Amazon further noted that some use cases are well-suited for modern technology. According to the company, multi-step agents prompted with high-level goals are still dependent on human supervision. Meanwhile, Nova Act SDK allows developers to break down complex workflows, and turn them into reliable atomic commands.
The New AI Agent Can Already Order And Pay On Behalf Of The User
In a demonstration, a member of Amazon’s technical staff by the name of Vishal Vora ran through the process of setting up an agent to visit the Sweetgreen restaurant site every Tuesday night. The agent was instructed to add the salad that Vora likes to a cart and choose to get it delivered to his address.
On top of that, it even added a tip before proceeding to a checkout and paying for the purchase and delivery.
Talking about the AI’s capabilities, Vora said that the point is to make an AI agent that doesn’t require babysitting, otherwise it is not really automation. Once they set up the Nova Act agent’s workflow, users can go fully into the so-called “headless mode,” meaning that they do not have to take any action again.
Amazon also commented on the new tool, stating that its dream is for its agents to perform wide-ranging, complex, multi-step tasks, such as organizing weddings, handling complex IT tasks, and more. It believes that having a capable agent like that would significantly increase business productivity.
