BP Citibank association began in 2006 after BP, a service station retailer, partnered with Citibank to launch BP Citibank MasterCard Australia. BP started its operations in Australia in 1919. The company is engaged in oil and natural gas exploration, refining, transportation and marketing.

The card comes with the following features and benefits:

  • Low annual rate of 2.9% on balance transfer for the initial 12 months.
  • Interest rate of 19.89% on cash advances and purchases.
  • Interest free credit period of a maximum of 55 days.
  • Maximum credit limit of $25,000.
  • Standard annual fee of $79.
  • Up to four add-on cards available.
  • Complementary purchase cover, fraud shield and travel accident insurance.
  • 24/7 customer service.

    BP Citibank MasterCard Australia offers cash back rewards in the form of:

    • 5% discount on fuel refill and purchases at BP stations.
    • 0.5% cash back on purchases from other stores.
    • Up to 25% discount with Citibank World Privileges.

    BP Citibank MasterCard Australia: Restrictions

    The card, however, also has some limitations, such as:

    • No additional reward programs, such as frequent flyer points, vouchers and gift certificates.
    • No online banking facility.
    • Reduction of rate of cash back from 1% to 0.5% on purchases from other outlets in early 2009.
    • No cash-back facility on fuel refill from other service stations.
    • Business Visa holders are ineligible to apply for the card.

    BP Citibank MasterCard Australia: How to apply

    A person over 18 years, with a sound credit rating and a minimum annual income of $20,000 can apply for this card online. The issuer gives a response on the application status within one minute of submitting the online form. Applicants must provide personal details and information about their financial position. This includes residential status (own house or rented accommodation), and value of assets owned, including house and vehicle. If the applicant is already in possession of a Citibank card, the period between the two applications must be more than nine months.

    BP Citibank MasterCard Australia is best-suited for regular BP customers. It is beneficial if the monthly spending of a person is over $2,000, since this will enable recovery of the annual fee. Repayments on the card can be done through BPAY, post, direct debit from savings or checking account or fund transfer.
