Sun Co-Founder Khosla Promotes Micro-Finance To End Indian Poverty

Vinod Khosla, the billionaire venture capitalist and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, was already among the world’s richest men

when he invested a few years ago in SKS Microfinance, a lender to poor women in India.

But the roaring success of SKS’s initial public stock offering has made him richer by about $117 million —

money he says he plans to plow back into other ventures that aim to fight poverty, while also trying to turn a profit.

EU Seeks Rare Earths Alternatives to China


 

The European Commission intends to propose pursuing more bilateral trade agreements and investing in infrastructure in Africa

as a means to increase alternative sources of rare earth metals,

hoping to break China’s dominance of the market for the strategic minerals.

The measures are outlined in a strategy paper for raw materials by the commissioner for industry and entrepreneurship, Antonio Tajani.

The paper states that Europe must step up its efforts to find new sources of the materials,
