Overall transport statistics are indicators of the efficiency of the supply chains that a country uses to bring products to market both domestically (primarily through rivers, roads and railways) and internationally (primarily through ports, airports and international roads & railways). Agriculture tends to rely more on rivers, manufacturing on ports and roads. Services led economies, and those that are involved in both inbound and outbound FDI, have a greater need for airports.
