The total value of all publicly traded companies listed in that country. It is made up of the value of shares multiplied by the total number of shares in circulation. Stock market values, particularly in markets that are deep (have lots of investors) and liquid (allow investors to move money easily in and out of the country) tend to be a forward indicator, often predicting economic cycles six to twelve months in advance.
