The economy of Palau consists primarily of tourism and transportation, subsistence agriculture, fisheries and farming. The government is the main employer of the labour force and also relies on financial aid from the US. Long-run prospects for the key tourist sector have been greatly boosted by the expansion of air travel in the Pacific, the rising prosperity of leading East Asian countries, and the willingness of foreigners to finance infrastructure and facilities development.
