The
Missouri Department of Agriculture is responsible for the formulation of the agricultural policies and assisting the farmers regarding all aspects of agriculture. Established as the Missouri State Board of Agriculture in the year 1865, in order to take the promising agricultural sector in Missouri to newer heights, the Missouri Department of Agriculture was formally founded with the abolition of the former State Board in 1933.
The
Missouri Department of Agriculture became primarily responsible for the farmers' welfare, promotion of the agricultural produce, protection of the consumers of agricultural products, upkeeping of the quality of agricultural yields and goods manufactured from those agricultural harvests, and breaking new grounds for the agriculture in the state.
As per the records of the Missouri Department of Agriculture, Missouri earns the highest amount of profits from the sale of Soybeans, as the value of the production of this crop is the greatest amongst all the agricultural products of Missouri. Corn, cotton, rice, wheat, sorghum, potatoes, burley are the significant crops which are cultivated in this state which lies to the west of Illinois. Though the production of corn is more than that of soybeans, the value of production is lesser in comparison.
The Missouri State Fair which is organized annually in Sedalia by the Missouri Department of Agriculture, is scheduled to be held from the 9th to the 19th of August this year, that is, 2007. This Annual State Fair ignites the spirit of healthy competition amongst all the competitors who are basically either farmers or indirectly related with agriculture, and as a result of this the agriculture of Missouri moves forward. The Missouri State Fair is in fact provides the farmers of Missouri with the platform to exhibit their produce, and promote the yields of their hard work. Crops as well as livestock products are showcased in this essentially agricultural fair which has, of late, taken on a general character.
