Laos remains a nation with an underdeveloped infrastructure and facilities, in particular in rural areas despite high growth rates. It has no rail transportation networks, a rudimentary transportation network system, and a ceiling on external and internal telecommunications. Subsistence agriculture, fisheries and farming are the mainstay of the economy.
