Togo has experiences both balance of trade deficit as well balance of payment deficit over various years.
Major exportable items of the Togo are phosphates, cotton, manufactures and coffee. Togo exports to the countries such as Benin, Ghana, Mali and Netherlands.
Important importable items of the country are capital goods, fuel and energy, and foodstuffs. For imports it depends upon the countries such as Italy, Germany, South Africa and China.

In 1962, Togo joined the World Bank. Since then the Bank has undertaken many steps for maintaining macro economic stability and raising basic economic infrastructure.
