Chemical Industry Trend has been very interesting over the years. The industry has experienced many ups and downs specially from 1984 upto the current year. In the 1980s, World Chemical Industry was dominated by some large multinationals who were producing chemicals at a large scale. Diversified types of chemicals were produced by these multinationals. Most of these multinational companies were from Western Countries. So, the Global Chemical Industry at that time was dominated by western countries. These countries were much ahead of others in the field of research and development. So, they were able to produce even complex chemicals.

A radical change came in the 1990s. The place of large chemical plants were taken by small plants. The country wise and company wise dominance continued but the companies started operating in a specialized manner in different countries at flexible terms of production. This change came because of the environment concerns and liability regulations that were introduced in this period.

This was the time when the concept of “Chemical Contractor” came in the world chemical industry. This concept actually owes its origin to the Multinational Divestment phenomena. As the major companies transformed their large size plants into smaller plants a gap was created in the world chemical market. To fill up the gap, some companies emerged who were producing chemicals on contractual basis. Many of the major players of world chemical industry were outsourcing the production of Chemical Intermediaries to these chemical contractors.

This rising trend of chemical contracting gave birth to many small Chemical Plants all over the world. Ever since it came out of the Western Country dominance world chemical industry saw some new emerging powers. Companies of Asia also started producing intermediate compounds of chemicals. They were doing quite well as they had the advantage of Low Operating Costs and were capable of offering prices which were very much competitive. With the emergence of Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, globalization came in the world chemical industry.

In the present day the global chemical industry is riding on a growth path. This has been possible due to the advanced technology and processes that are being introduced in the chemical industry every other day.
