Tanzania is a lower income economies comes under the Sub Saharan African region, as to the classification made by the World Bank on the basis of income and region for the year 2006.

Tanzania economy is largely dependent upon the agricultural activities. Agriculture constitutes a larger share in the total GDP of the country followed by the services. More than 80% of the employment comes from this sector.

Major agricultural products in the country are sugarcane, cotton, tea, tobacco and coffee. Important industries are diamond, iron mining, cement, fertilizer and salt. The country possesses some reserves of gold and tin.
