Lithuania is an Upper Middle income economies coming under the Europe and Central Asian region as to the classification made by the World Bank on the basis of income and region for the year 2006.

The country's economy is in a path towards market friendly economy system. The economic progress is very slow in the country. A larger portion of the country's Gross Domestic Product comes from the services sector followed by the Industrial sector.

Major agricultural products of the country are potatoes, sugar beets, flax, vegetables, beef, milk, eggs, and fish. Important industries in the country are ship building, chemicals, paper, sugar and garments.
