Bhutan is a Lower Income Country coming under the South Asian Region as to the classification made by the World Bank on the basis of Income and region for the year 2006.

Though it is one of the smallest economies in the world, still its fast rising economic growth rate has drawn the attention over the Globe. The country is largely dependent upon agriculture sector, and forestry. Agriculture accounts for a larger share in the country's Gross Domestic Product.

The country has larger deposits of marble, dolomite, graphite, lead, copper, slate, coal, talc, gypsum, and beryl. Major agricultural products in the country are rice, corn, root crops, foodgrains, and dairy products. Important industries in the country are Food industry, cement, wood products, and processed fruits.

Preswently the economy of the country largely recieves foreign exchange earnings from the tourism industry.
