You have applied for a Seattle credit card and have been approved. You wait expectantly for your card to arrive in the mail. Before your card ends up in your hands there are some things you need to know. Here we look at four basic tips when it comes to the usage of a credit card.

# 1- Make every effort not to carry a balance on your card from month to month. If you do have an outstanding balance from one month to the next then you will end up paying a tremendous amount in interest charges. To prevent carrying a balance do not spend more on your card than you can afford to pay off at the end of the month. If you find that despite your best efforts you do have to pay interest charges because of a balance then consider a balance transfer to another kind of Seattle credit card that offers a zero percent APR offer or consider a cheaper alternative such as switching to a personal line of credit through the bank.

# 2- Avoid getting cash advances except in the case of an emergency. If you must get one then repay it as soon as possible. When you take a cash advance you are charged interest from the minute you take the advance. There is no grace period as there is for purchases made on your credit card. It is also likely that you will be charged a service fee for the privilege of taking out a cash advance.

#3- Be thorough in your choice of a Seattle credit card. Do not apply for just any credit card but narrow your focus to find the one that is best suited to you. Be smart and do not get carried away by fancy advertising campaigns, reward programs or offers that sound too good to be true. Look for a no interest credit card offer that lasts for six to 12 months in duration.

# 4- Set up pre-authorized payments to pay your credit card in order that it will always be paid on time. In this way you will never have to worry about paying any interest. If you prefer to pay your bill online or by sending a check then do not wait until the last minute. This is especially the case if you mail your payment. Even if a payment is unintentionally late you will still be penalized and will be charged interest. Do not pay your Seattle credit card late if you can help it!
