We all know that there are certain things we should do to protect our Massachusetts credit card but there are so lesser known techniques that are worth learning about as well. Let us explore some of these strategies.

How often do you let your credit card out of your sight when you are out at an establishment? It is when your card is out of sight that bad things can happen. Consider this common scenario- how often have you been at a restaurant and given your card to the server who has left your table to process the transaction? How do you know that the person is only doing that? It is when your card is away from you that it can be swiped through a card reader and record your information stored on the magnetic stripe. Once a criminal has your personal information he or she can create a duplicate Massachusetts credit card. It is a scary thought.

There are times when you buy something at a store and your card is swiped twice. Often this is because the card reader experienced a problem reading the information on the magnetic stripe. However sometimes multiple swipes are a criminal’s cunning way of copying your information and transferring it from the magnetic stripe to a storage device that will allow them to create their own Massachusetts credit card with your information on it. If your card is swiped more than once always ask why.

If you have more than one credit card then do not carry all of them with you at once when you leave the house. If you lose your wallet or your purse then you will lose all of your credit cards. If you leave your wallet or purse unattended and a thief gains access to it he is likely to steal only one credit card. If you keep only one card with you and it disappears then at least you have others that are safe and sound at home. It is also wise to try to do most or all of you’re spending on just one Massachusetts credit card.

Use extra care when shopping online. Only use your credit card on secured websites. You will know a site is secure because there will be a picture of a small lock in the lower right hand corner of the page. Some websites may display the lock on their status bar. As well the website address will be https and not http. Never use your card on an unsecured website because anyone with a little bit of know how can find a way to retrieve your credit card number.
