If you have a Florida credit card but have found yourself a victim of today’s society, the worst thing you could do is ignore the debt.  Instead, you need to contact the credit card company, bank, or credit union that issued the card or work with a professional debt counseling or debt consolidation firm.  Usually, taking the initiative to find a solution will result in a solution that works for everyone involved.

The priority should be working out a debt settlement plan with the issuing company, which depending on the company or financial institution this may also be called debt reduction or debt negotiation.  Regardless, the programs all work from the same concept of helping the cardholder get the debt paid off to satisfy the issuing company but also not put the debtor in a harder financial situation.

While debt settlement plans have been in existence for mortgages and automotive companies for many years, this type of service specific to credit cards is somewhat new.  In this case, if you owe money on your Florida credit card you would negotiate directly with the issuing company to pay an amount actually less than the balance owed.  While you may have your credit affected if this is reported but at least you would get the balance paid in full.

Although anyone owing money on a Florida credit card that cannot be paid would have the option of negotiating debt settlement with the credit card company, bank, or credit union, this type of arrangement is most helpful for people that are simply overwhelmed with debt.  As an example, if you had lost your job and making payments on the credit card balance is no longer a priority a debt settlement plan would be the ideal solution.

Keep in mind that while negotiating the payoff of your Florida credit card is beneficial, this also has some negative factors involved.  As mentioned, your credit score could be affected.  Depending on the amount of debt, the score could go down a little or a lot.  You will need to weigh the options of working something about with the issuing company or trying to come up with some other kind of solution.

Two additional and more serious concerns when choosing debt settlement with your Florida credit card is that until the balance has been paid in full as agreed upon, you would likely be harassed by collectors and you would still be at risk for having a judgment, lien, or lawsuit filed against you.  Therefore, the more aggressive you can make the payments in getting the debt paid off the better you would be.

The thing to remember is that the laws pertaining to Florida credit card best will vary from any other state.  However, all states are required to follow federal law.  For this, the law states that if a collector is actively pursuing a debt, once a “Cease and Desist” certified letter is mailed the harassing phone calls will continue.  If you find yourself in this situation, simply get a letter sent off as quickly as possible.

In addition, for debt in this state to include your Florida credit card, the law states that in addition to collectors being required to stop harassing phone calls, the credit card company, bank, or credit union that issued the card would also have to stop demanding money.  Again, the best thing you can do is contact the issuing company as soon as you know a problem exists so you can make proper arrangements.
