If you have an Arkansas credit card then you should be concerned about protecting it. Many people believe that identity theft and credit card fraud are the exact same crime but they are not although the terms are often used synonymously. Credit card fraud is bad but identity theft is much worse and is more far reaching and all encompassing. When your identity is stolen you will have a great deal more to deal with then fraudulent charges on your credit card(s). The motivation for the criminal often is more than just financial gain.

A thief who steals your identity can do a number of things. He or she can alter your credit information and create new accounts including applying and being approved for a new Arkansas credit card. Your identity can be used to commit crimes and create a whole new identity. This is a very serious crime that can have extreme ramifications for the victim.

Credit card fraud on the other hand is connected only to credit card use. It deals with your credit card number being stolen and being used to make fraudulent purchases. It is common for criminals to find a way to gain access to your credit card number and then from there they often will make purchases either online or offline. They may then sell the items they have purchased to others in order to get the money.

While credit card fraud is not the exact same thing as identity theft, it is a component of it. There are cases where the fraudulent use of your Arkansas credit card can lead to your identity being stolen. This is no small matter. What is frightening is that both crimes are on the rise.

Credit card fraud is easier to prevent than you might think. For example, do not walk around with a credit card that has not been signed on the back. Having a card with no signature makes it so much easier for a criminal who stole it to use it because they can simply just sign your name on the back and retailers will not know the difference.

To protect your card do not lend it to anyone and do not tell them your credit card number. As well do not leave it lying around anywhere. When you go to make a purchase over the internet make sure you verify the legitimacy of the party before you give them your Arkansas credit card number. Never take any unnecessary or foolish chances with your credit card(s)!
