In certain parts of the country, unique credit cards are offered.  One of these is the Alaska credit card and although this can be issued through banks and credit unions just as in other states, it can be issued through companies.  For instance, an Alaska credit card could be issued through Alaska Airlines.  This Visa provides a number of benefits over other cards.

Known as the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature credit card, it is the ideal choice for people that fly often on this particular airline.  Some of the special benefits that go along with this Alaska credit card include:

·    Potential for earning double frequent flyer miles
·    Ability to earn unlimited frequent flyer miles
·    A $50 companion roundtrip ticket annually
·    Earned 2,000 bonus miles annually when this Alaska credit card is renewed

The formula used for the miles associated with this Alaskan credit card is designed to make the card worthwhile.  The double miles earned are for Alaska Airlines but also Horizon Air tickets, as well as vacation packages.  The earned frequent flyer and unlimited miles will remain valid for a full three years but if the account remains active during a three-year period, the miles would not expire.

In addition, the Alaska credit card features bonus miles once you become approved.  Immediately, you would be provided with 20,000 bonus miles but if you apply for this card on the internet instead of in person or via mail, you would be provided with an additional 1,000 miles.  Other bonuses include the two-boardroom pass and the companion ticket.

You will also enjoy what is called an “anniversary bonus”.  For this, you receive a $50 round trip companion ticket once approved for the Alaska credit card but for as long as you remain a cardholder for this Visa, you would receive this same offer once a year, every year.  If you enjoy traveling but prefer to travel with a friend, this reward alone is worth the card.

Now, while this Alaska credit card does have a $75 annual fee, something most of the better credit cards do not charge and, the Annual Percentage Rate would be based on the current prime rate plus 6.99%.  To determine the monthly balance, the issuing company uses the Average Daily Balance Method, which would include all new purchases made using the card.

Although this Alaska credit card is just one example of what you will find, it is a good card if you travel on the airlines often.  If not, you could check out card options with the Bank of America, First National Bank Alaska, Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union, and others.  For each, determine the different types of cards offered and read the terms and conditions to understand the interest rate, fees, grace period, balance transfer options, late payments, reporting, billing cycle, and so on.  The more information you have the more you can choose the Alaska credit card that would be ideal for your specific needs.
