The Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX) is a stock exchange in Canada. The exchange was established in Canada in 1999. The establishment of the exchange was a result of an agreement between the Vancouver, Alberta, Toronto and Montreal stock exchanges to restructure the Canadian capital market.
The exchange was created with the merger of the Vancouver Stock Exchange and the Alberta Stock Exchange. Ever since its establishment the focus of the CDNX has been junior companies i.e. those companies whose market capitalization is too small to be listed on Toronto Stock Exchange. These companies, often, were resource exploration companies, but later new high technology ventures came within its fold. The Winnipeg Stock Exchange and the Bourse de Montreal equities market were later merged with the CDNX.
The Canadian Venture Exchange has its headquarters in Calgary, Alberta and has offices in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal.
Back in 2001, the TSX Group acquired the CDNX, and it was renamed the TSX Venture Exchange. While the TSX Venture mostly deals with senior equities, the TSX Venture Exchange deals with public venture equities.
Through the initiatives of the Canadian Venture Exchange, the Canadian markets have become magnet from around the world. It is important to mention here that Canada is the only G7 country in surplus for the last eight successive years.
