Airports

The Biju Patnaik Air Port at Bhubaneswar has already been declared as a Customs Airport and being upgraded to international status.


Roads

Orissa is well connected by all modern means of surface transport to the various strategic points with more than 55000 Kms of roadways.

Railway

The State has rail and road network providing linkage to the various strategic points with more than 22364 Kms of rail route.

Ports

Orissa has a long coast line, with Paradip as the major all weather port. In addition, there are a no. of small ports in the State which offers tremendous opportunities for international trade. The plan to set up an all weather port at Gopalpur will provide further export opportunities to the entrepreneurs of the State.

Power

Orissa has been a pioneer among States in India in embarking on a comprehensive reform of the electricity industry of the State. The aim of the reform is to address the fundamental issues underlying poor performance of the Orissa State Electricity Board and restructure the power sector.

The objective to make power supply more efficient, meet the needs of a growing economy and develop an economically viable power industry which will enable Orissa to attract private capital while safeguarding the interests of the consumers.

Telecom

The long distance transmission network within Orissa comprises mostly optic fibre and digital microwave systems. The 12 long distance charging centers and 120 short distance charging centers of Orissa have been provided with reliable media, mostly optical fibre cable. Radio System 634(route in km) 48(no. of radio systems).

Total reliable media route kilometer in Orissa as on 01.04.2001 is around 12,500 km. Total no. of exchanges with reliable media in Orissa is 945 out of a total of 990 Switching .

All 800 Exchanges are Digital Electronics Exchanges with 0.4 million lines capacity & 0.37 working lines. Major cities have new tech switch with CCS-7 signaling & ISDN. TAX (Trunk Auto Exchange) at Cuttack is of OCB (Alcatel) type & ESWD (Siemens) type at Cuttack.

Internet available throughout the state from central ISP node at Bhubaneswar by turn of century, all Secondary Switching Area headquarters which are co-terminus with old 13 revenue districts of Orissa will have separate ISP nodes, Internet capacity expected to touch 25,000 by year 2000.
