Photovoltaic Power Plants

A number of photovoltaic power plants have been constructed all over the world and a significant portion of these photovoltaic power plants have been built in Europe. In the recent times Spain has finished the construction of two photovoltaic power plants. These two have been constructed in Beniexama and Jumilla and have the capacity to produce 20 megawatts. The United States of America has constructed a 14 megawatt photovoltaic power plant at the Air Force Base in Nellis. There is a 12 megawatt photovoltaic power station at Arnstein. The photovoltaic power station at Pocking has a capacity of 10 megawatt and the one at Muldentalkreis has a capacity of 40 megawatt.

In Portugal there is a power station at Serpa, which has a capacity of 11 megawatt. Plans are on for a power station at Moura. This power station is supposed to have a capacity of 60 megawatts. A photovoltaic power station is also being planned in Australia. It is supposed to be built from 2010 onwards and is supposed to be finished by 2013 and it is supposed to have a capacity of 154 megawatts. It is supposed to use the heliostat concentrator technology.

A substantial amount of these plants are supposed to be incorporated into agriculture. There are other photovoltaic power plants that are more innovative in their approach. These power plants use tracking systems to pursue the course of the sun's movement. This way they are able to generate more electricity compared to the fixed or mounted systems. These photovoltaic power plants do not incur any expenses for fuel and there are no fuel emissions as well.

Some of the major photovoltaic power plants in operation may be mentioned below along with their locations and highest capacities:
