So, generally, the companies which are involved in construction of real estate properties are called Real Estate Companies. But, renovation of already existing real estate properties and the real estate brokerage service is also done by many Real Estate Companies.

Real Estate Properties are mainly of two types which are Residential Real Estate Properties and Commercial Real Estate Properties. So, the companies which are engaged in the construction of residential real estate properties like apartments, bungalows, villas, pent houses and condominiums; are called Residential Real Estate Companies. In the similar way, the companies which are associated with construction of commercial real estate properties like office buildings, shopping malls and retail spaces are considered as Commercial Real Estate Companies.

But, this classification is not always valid. This is because, there are many large Real Estate Companies in the world who are involved in the construction business of both residential real estate properties and commercial real estate properties.
