National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)
National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is one of the organizations on insurance regulation in the United Sates. It regulates the laws for the 50 states, District of Columbia and five territories of the United States. The State insurance regulation created the NAIC in the year 1871 for addressing the need to coordinate regulation of multistate insurers.
The NAIC tries to assist the state insurance regulators. It aims at maintaining the following goals:
- Protecting the public interest
- Promoting a better competitive market
- Equitable treatment to the insurance consumers
- Improve the state regulation in the insurance sector
