The Indiana Insurance Department acts as the apex body for controlling insurance industry in the state. It implements the insurance laws for consumers in the state. It regulates all the companies operating in the state. It reviews policies and rates, monitors the financial condition and handles the claims properly.

The Governer appoints commissioner of the state who acts as the head of the department. Commissioner is also a member of NAIC.
