Building Insurance (Building and Contents Insurance)

The most valuable possession for most people would be the place or building where they live. Like any other insurance, building insurance is unavoidable because it helps us shield our valuable assets from damage. Contents insurance also compensates for goods and possessions that are a part of our home though these are typically non-permanent fixtures, such as furniture and general home appliances.

What is Building Insurance?

Building insurance protects property structure from damage caused by unforeseen calamities such as floods, storms, earthquakes, landslides or robberies. A good building insurance policy also covers events like subsidence, burst pipes and falling aircrafts. A building insurance policy often covers the cost of reconstruction and repairing required due to any disaster or fire. Permanent fixtures, such as fixed kitchens, wardrobes and bathroom fitting, are also covered in building insurance.

What is the Level of Building Insurance Cover Needed?

Your level of cover, whether highest or lowest, depends on a few of the following factors:

  • Your budget.
  • Whether the building is located in a high-risk zone or a in a fairly protected region.
  • The value of the building and its contents.
  • The level of cover you purchase will also depend on how much research and time you put into finding and studying insurance companies’ products. You may find some that offer much higher (or lower) cover than others, and this may suit you best.

    What Does Contents Insurance Mean?

Contents insurance covers any damage that may happen to your furniture, home appliances or other valuables that you keep inside your home. It is also one of the toughest forms of insurance to calculate. If you want a strong protection for your goods, it is best to pay a higher premium. This way, the coverage you receive would be much higher.

A critical factor is to consider the value of the goods that are covered. It is sometimes difficult to evaluate the exact value of items. So, insurers suggest an estimate based on the number and types of rooms.

Another criterion is the location of the property. If your property is located in a crime-prone area or is known for stolen properties, the coverage will be expensive.

Building insurance and contents insurance help owners recover from the loss that is caused. So, check online and find the best insurance quotes. Remember to study the form documents carefully before finalizing the one that seems ideal for your needs.
