Short term car insurance, though not a substitute for permanent annual insurance, may prove handy if one needs temporary cover while on a holiday or for an additional vehicle. This type of insurance is typically helpful when one has bought a new car but has not been able to sort out its full insurance or if the old policy has lapsed and the new one has not yet come into being. With short term car insurance, it is possible to add on a new driver to your vehicle or to drive someone else’s car. This type of insurance could be slightly expensive but it makes one legally capable of driving a car without any long term commitments. Besides, it is completely independent of one’s existing long term and other policies. However, short term car insurance policies may or may not include covers for repair services, which are generally covered by long term insurance.
Short term car insurance is available for classic cars, vans, kit cars, modified cars or campers for a period ranging from one day to 11 months. Additional coverage can be given for windscreen, audio system and breakdown if damage occurs during the term of the policy. Some policies include foreign travel as well in the cover. Any driver beyond 21 years of age is eligible for short term car insurance for a car s/he intends to drive for a short period of time.
