Auto Insurance Quotes
We all probably realise that the cost of insurance is directly dependent on credit history. A bad driving or insurance record will further aggrevate the situation.
But few people realize that an insurance company's own financial situation - ie whether it is currently profitable or loss-making - is one of the biggest factors for determining how much they will pay for coverage. It seems unfair, since we could end up paying more through no fault of our own - but insurance is business, big business at that, and it is focused on generating profits for shareholders.
So, if an insurance company paid out a large amount because of say a tropical hurricane, then its homeowner division may rack up a big loss. How will the company get that money back? It may end of jacking up premiums on auto insurance premiums, travel insurance coupons etc. Or they could increase the insurance prices for house insurance policyholders in other states.
Eventually, all loses will be transfered or 'socialised' to customers in the cost of their premiums and possibly also in redemptions limits, co-pay and exclusions. It may not happen straight away and in the same line of business, but be sure that it will happen.
Although many auto insurers offer steep discounts in recessions, be careful - sometimes that is only an introductory offer. After year 2, the costs might go up significantly.
When comparing insurance policies, it is important therefore to look not just at price, but also at small print and conditions.
Getting Discounted Auto Insurance Quotes
As we have explained auto insurance costs vary. Insurance companies will look at you individually, but they will also work within their own business imperatives, and this may mean higher prices for you.
However it can also mean lower prices.
Take time to compare prices and conditions. Keep on the look out, particularly when the industry or companies are in trouble because of declining customer numbers. That is when they are most likely to offer you more competitive insurance quotes.
As well as rate or price quotes, you should also compare:
1. the financial stability of the company
2. their reputation
3. the quality, security and ease of their customer service
4. how they handle claims
5. and how they license
