Canada Vehicle Insurance (Vehicle Insurance Canada)

Canada vehicle insurance secures a policyholder against financial losses resulting from an accident, theft and/or accident liabilities. Vehicle insurance Canada is available for all types of commercial and non-commercial vehicles.

Types of Canada Vehicle Insurance

As there are numerous types of vehicles plying on the road, there are varied Canada vehicle insurance policies. These include:

  • Car insurance: The first thing you need before you can drive a car in Canada is a vehicle insurance policy. In some of the provinces in Canada it is mandatory to buy auto insurance before you can get your car registered. The car insurance policy provides you cover against liability, injury, property damage and collision.
  • Commercial vehicle insurance: If you have a business that involves transporting people or goods, any accident or theft could warrant substantial reinvestment. Your personal vehicle insurance is inadequate to cover for losses if the vehicle is being used for business purposes. Commercial vehicle insurance also provides cover for damages filed by a third party. You can opt for a comprehensive cover and reduce your costs. There is usually no limit to the claim that an insurance company will pay in case your commercial vehicle injures a third party, which could include passengers in the vehicle. Businesses operating commercial and heavy goods vehicles, such as excavators and bulldozers, are also eligible for this type of insurance.
  • Specialty insurance: This insurance is designed for classic auto and specialty vehicles, such as kit and antique cars, modified/custom cars and race cars.
  • Most Canada vehicle insurance policies offer universal coverage. However, much of the coverage amount varies from province to province.

Canada Vehicle Insurance: How to Make a Claim

When submitting a claim to the insurance company, you need to ensure that you have the following:

  • The details of your Canada vehicle insurance policy, such as policy number.
  • Details of the third party that has suffered losses. The details could include the address, name and extent of damage.
  • Estimated value of the claim. You must consider details such as purchase price, repair costs and replacement cost while making the estimate. The extent of damage to the involved vehicles and injuries to passengers also needs to be considered.
